What a voice product needs that a screen doesn't

A screen can show options, progress, and context at a glance. A voice product has to provide that reassurance in another way. The user needs to know what is happening, what the product heard, and how to change course without feeling stuck.

The basics matter: a calm and purposeful voice, short prompts, and a pace that leaves room to think. The product should confirm important details and make it easy to correct a misunderstanding. Silence and waiting also need to feel intentional rather than broken.

Visual design still has a role. It shapes the setting around the voice experience, from onboarding to account controls and follow-up messages. The strongest voice products make those touchpoints feel like one service, not a talking feature attached to an app.
